About SAC

0006c.jpgSAC is dedicated to the development and education of deprived children in India, especially children of local tribes and outcastes or untouchables. The aim of SAC is to give these children a chance for a better future by providing the financial facilities for their education. SAC is active in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) and in the federal states of Jharkand, West Bengal and Orissa, which are among the poorest regions in India.

SAC is focussed on education for the poorest of the poor children of age 6 – 18, based on the following principles:

  • children have a future, and education gives structure to this future.
  • education is the best way to reduce child labour.DSC01443.JPG
  • being able to read and write improves the self-confidence of children; it makes them more resistant and improves their chances for a proper job.
  • acquired knowledge is a value for the child's whole life. Besides the child itself, the parents and the neighbours often have advantage of the education of the child too.

SAC is a national, independent and unattached Dutch organisation which is officially approved by the Dutch national agency for fundraising (‘CBF’). Among other things, CBF verifies how the raised funds are spent and discloses the proportion of management costs in relation to the total revenues.

All work is done by unpaid volunteers, so donations are really available for the aims of SAC.
As a matter of fact: SAC is among the Dutch NGO 's that operates with the lowest overhead costs in The Netherlands!

Our financial situation is checked by auditors each year. The annual report, including the financial accounts, is available (in Dutch only) to everyone who is interested.
