New Projects
Estimated project cost: € 17.000
The village Jhatioda in Orissa is situated in one of the poorest areas of India. Many people have little means of livelihood. There is hardly any prospect of a future for the lower casts and tribal population.
Tribal boys from the environment of Jhatioda had to walk quite a distance to go to the (public) school. They also did not get a decent daily meal. Therefore, some years ago, a Christian organization built a small hostel for boys in Jhatioda. This hostel, called 'St. Maria Ashram ', is now home to about 50 boys. Here they sleep, study and get a simple meal.
It is a very primitive set-up, not more than a large hall, where all activities have to take place: eating, sleeping, studying, playing and even being ill.
The hostel now calls upon SAC to finance extension of the hostel by building an additional floor on the existing hall. This will serve as dormitory. The sanitary situation also needs urgent improvement. The existing toilets are in poor condition and the capacity is insufficient. For this, five additional toilets will be built.
SAC calls for your help to finance this project.
