Stichting Actie Calcutta
Even today, more than 300 million people in India have a budget of less than 1 Euro per day.
As a result of this, parents cannot afford to send their children to school, as they need to participate in raising income for the basic necessities of life from early age on. SAC is a Dutch foundation, since 1968 dedicated to the development and education of deprived children, especially from local tribes. SAC is a Dutch abbreviation for "Stichting Actie Calcutta", meaning NGO for deprived children in Calcuta (and environment).
SAC operates in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) and in the federal states of Jharkand, West Bengal and Orissa, which are among the poorest regions in India. Many children are totally deprived of education in these regions where literacy rates range as low as 10 to 40%. Child labour is very common in the local rural societies where children have to contribute to their family earnings.
Education is the prime tool to break the circle of poverty. It gives access to better jobs, strengthens self-confidence and stimulates people to improve their conditions.
SAC:
-
sponsors each year about 3500 children, enabling them to attend school and to prepare themselves for a decent living. - sponsors each year about 40 supporting projects like the building of schools and hostels.
- there is no rake off. Overhead expenses do not exceed 7% of the revenues. All work is done by unpaid volunteers, so your donation is really available for the aims of SAC.
Make education possible for a deprived child in India. Support SAC to give more children a chance for development.
